Digital cutter are FUN!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thanks for your thoughts on mental health! I'm OK, and while I still haven't found those items, and I'm still "frustrated" by a piece of technology that isn't cooperating with me, I'm over that destructive feeling. Thankfully, it doesn't last long, but I wish I could control it. Thankfully, my mind tells me to throw things, but don't break things - like dumping an embroidery machine on the floor!

Oh my gosh—this is just too cute to pass up. When I walk Lexi in the morning, the other two hop up in bed ...

Benartex Ambassador Project #3 from Nestlings By Robin

Christmas in July is celebrated by
lots of quilters to get a jump on
their Christmas gift lists, so
I am going to offer 2
Christmas in July patterns
for my Benartex projects!

For project #3 I chose
to work with the new
arriving in shops now.
This line has a lovely
silky feel to it and there
are lots of cute
prints to choose from.
White makes me think of
snowflakes though and how
fun are those little
paper cut ones from
our childhood.

In all honesty, I was never
much good at getting them ...

CHURNED DAISIES:) from Nestlings By Robin

of American Quilter.
The digital issue is now

I am SO excited to finally
have this design out in the world:)
and in one of my favorite
color combinations!
These fabrics have been
waiting for me to get my
butt in gear as they sat
patiently for years in this fun
monogram bag given to me by
my friend, Susan!
The daisy inspiration came
from these ca 1970 home items,
(match tin & recipe card box)
which were found while treasure
hunting with same sweet friend!

Dos and Don’ts When Choosing Fabrics for Your Flower Art Quilt from Melinda's Cutting Garden

I’m writing this blog because I know many new-be quilters out there may need some guidance when choosing fabrics for a specific project. Specifically, one of my flower patterns or a landscaped, something that you want to give a realist/painterly look. It matters what kind of fabric you use. I’m going to speak specifically about my technique and using my flower patterns, but the concept works across the board. You can’t use any run-of-the-mill quilters stash for making these art quilts. So, what is my technique? I’m painting a painting using use fabrics. So, when ...

Llamas! from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

We've had some really cold days here in Minnesota, but I guess it's typical weather for us. I've been moping since my oven has died and I have been unable to bake. I love warming the house up with the smells of fresh baked goods! I've been craving Tri-level Brownies. My absolute favorite brownie recipe! I've been making these since 1983 when I first was given a Better Homes and Gardens Cookie book by my grandparents. There are so many wonderful recipes in this book, and I have been missing baking lately. I've been ...

Snowmen Love! from Quilt Doodle Doodles

I Love snowmen!

It's that time of year that love is in the air.... so, I put out this sweet design out in my kitchen. I think it's perfect for this time of year! Now that all of my Christmas decorations are tucked away it's time to decorate for Valentine's Day. Let me show you how I made it....

Here I have all my pieces layered onto my towel and ironed down.

Typically, I use brown thread to applique around everything, but I wanted a softer look for my Valentine design. I matched up my fabric ...

Who is ready for some
BLIZZARD QUILTING?!!

www.nestlingsbyrobin.com

Anyone else have wonderful memories
of watching the Olympics every year?
I think the most exciting one for me was
1980 because we lived near
Albany, NY then and the excitement was
amazing living so close to
where it was all happening:)
SO, this year I will be hosting a QAL
during the 2 weeks of the Winter Olympics.
We will be sewing on my quilt,
Winter Games.
This quilt was designed
years and years ago
but never made it to pattern stage
until now:)

As with previous QALs,
all the information will ...

FLOURISH: New QAL from Nestlings By Robin

Well-Loved Ladies was a Huge success
and we still have many that are
working on it because it really
isn't a quick project:)

As promised many moons ago,
a smaller more attainable project
would be next so that those
intimidated or not up to the
task of WLL would be able to
join the quilt along fun and
sharpen their skills for when
they are ready to tackle WLL.

Twice a month starting July 1st,
I will present a tutorial via a
post here & FB that prepares us
for the next step in the quilt along.

Snowflake from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

It's been hotter than Hades here lately, we're not used to this kind of heat in June. This is more like mid July- August weather. I have been spending a lot of time inside, only to venture out to water the plants and flowerpots. I'm babying my little veggie starts and so far I've only lost one whimpy tomato plant. While trying to keep cool in the house I worked on a chilly little snowman mug rug. It's quick, it's cute.... perfect if you want to get a jump on some Christmas stocking stuffers ...

Poppy Pod Lane from Nestlings By Robin

I have a love of poppy flowers and
have designed some larger quilts
that the magazines maybe find
overwhelming...?

So I designed a smaller piece and
picked it up:)  YAY!
Their magazine is so full of beauty.

I started previewing my fabrics
to see how they would look
as quarter-square triangles.

Once the top was finished,
it was time to work on the
embroidery for the
applique' section.

Once all my applique'
was fused in place,
on to basting....

Yes, I pin baste
small projects for
machine quilting.

My quilting was straight
stitching along the diagonal line ...

Bramble Blooms from Nestlings By Robin

The May issue of AQ Magazine is out and you will
find my Bramble Blooms within its fine pages.

Let's talk fabrics:)

My fabric supplier was very
generous with this HARLOW
collection from Northcott.
There is some truth to having too many decisions:)

Sometimes you need to try a new
technique, quilt style, or in this
case, a new block.

I have an affinity for pinwheel
blocks and tried something new
this time by splitting one square of
a half-square triangle set up
before stitching together.
It gives some fun extra movement.

Then you chain piece
every step of ...

Here were the original layouts
for this design and it would be
so fun to make a center pieced
medallion and add the applique'.

Then I started playing with
a long wall hanging and
layering the applique' sets
from the 4 way layout.
It is just so cheerful and a
 bit smaller.

NEW Nasturtium Pattern and Class from Melinda's Cutting Garden

It's mind-blowing to me how many businesses have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and those of us in the quilting, sewing, and fabric industries have not escaped the pain.  Fortunately, the quilting business is made up of creative minds and that ingenuity, along with some tricky tap dancing, has kept most  folks upright and moving forward. I don’t know about you, but when I'm given a challenge, and I've faced  several big ones in my life, I need to overcome and conquer.  That does not mean I don’t have a good ...

Dogwood Stars from Nestlings By Robin

Welcome Dogwood Stars
featuring Connecting Threads'
new fabric line.......
https://www.connectingthreads.com/dogwood-stars-wall-hanging-kit/p/99367

During testing I made my
own version using these
fabrics because the
color way spoke to me
but wasn't available yet.
I am a sucker for pretty
much any fabric with
script on it!!

This design has simple
piecing along with
fusible applique'.

The diamonds in the border
sections are all applique'
vs. piecing so cut and stick:)

These little tweezers make
placement of small pieces
so much easier.
sheet so that these bits
are all applied making
completed flowers BEFORE
fusing to ...
